making do

this is my favourite olive tree

she is young and this year she produced her first "serious" crop
they don't stop giving, ever, and they live for many many years
new branches thrust towards the sun
 pretty, isn't she?
needed a longer leash for Argos

so I made one

Some of my best memories of Greece are sitting with the ancient, gnarled olive trees in the heat. The dust on the ground hot and dry. I loved drawing the twisting, hole-filled trunks and I remember finding outgrown insect shells stuck to them. She is a lovely, lithe little tree!

yes, Valerianna, lying with your back on a trunk in the middle of an ancient olive grove in midday heat you can believe in magic, nymphs, anything!!
